Marc Hirschi won the 44th Tour de Hongrie!

By the request of the teams, the last stage of Tour de Hongrie was neutralized due to the weather conditions and the slippery roads. The general classification of the race has not changed: the Swiss rider of UAE Team Emirates could take the yellow yersey.

At 12.00 a.m. the competitors of Tour de Hongrie set off on the streets of Budapest after an hour delay. Being late was deliberate: the teams have been negotiating with the organizers to the last moments about the conditions of the city circuit. Finally they decided to neutralize the stage: the race was shortened to 8 laps (75 kilometers), the intermediate sprints were removed, no stage winner was announced, and the general classification results were recorded as of the day before. 

In the end, the riders completed some celebrational laps for the fans’ biggest pleasure. The start ribbon was cut jointly by the international ambassador of the competition, Stephen Roche; the mayor of Budapest and stage patron, Gergely Karácsony; the general manager of Bosch Group in Hungary and in the Adriatic region, István Szászi; and the chief organizer, Károly Eisenkrammer. The circuit route’s scenery was very remarkable: the Chain Bridge, the Parliament building, the Margaret Island and the Buda Castle provided a very picturesque scenery to the whole ’race’. 

With no further changes in the GC, the 44th Tour de Hongrie was won by Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates), ten seconds ahead of Ben Tullett (INEOS Grenadiers) and thirteen seconds ahead of Yannis Voisard (Tudor Pro Cycling Team). Hirschi is only the second Swiss winner of the Tour de Hongrie - among his compatriots Kurt Stettler, triumphed here in 1933.

The winner of the points classification is a big surprise: Matus Stocek (ATT Investments) took so many points with his breakaways, that nobody could match his tally in the end.

The mountain jersey went to Austrian climber Sebastian Schönberger (Human Powered Health). For the 29-year-old competitor, this is his second distinctive jersey of the year: he won the points classification of Gran Camino.

ATT Investments came to the competition as a small team, yet they can return to the Czech Republic with two distinctive jerseys. Márton Dina confidently won the white jersey for the best Hungarian rider, with a lead of over 2 minutes ahead of Péter Kusztor (Team Novo Nordisk).
