Everything you need to know about the centenary Tour de Hongrie

5 days, 21 teams, 126 riders and 875 km awaits us in 2025 at the 46th Tour de Hongrie.

Tour de Hongrie is again on the International Cycling Union (UCI) calendar as a ProSeries event. This time, the occasion is special: the first Hungarian Tour was held 100 years ago.

The 46th edition will take place from 14 to 18 May 2025, but the programme starts on 13 May. A real cycling festival awaits participants at Műegyetem Rakpart, Budapest with exhibitors, raffles, spinning, a cycling conference, bike tours, meet & greets with Blanka Vas and Dylan Groenewegen - and of course, the Team Presentation of Tour de Hongrie 2025 (18:00-19:00 CET), broadcast live on Hungarian sports channel M4 Sport. Read more about Day 0 here.

The next day, 14 May, Tour de Hongrie will start in the same place where the first one started a hundred years earlier: on Szent Gellért Square. The first destination for the peloton will be Győr, another host of the 1925 race, where the sprinters will compete for the yellow jersey. On 15 May, there will be another flat stage along the eastern shore of Lake Balaton between Veszprém and Siófok, followed by the Queen Stage: the peloton will start its journey to the top of Kékestető (11 km; 5,5%) from Gödöllő Royal Palace. On Saturday, there will be another sprint stage between Tata and Székesfehérvár, and on 18 May, the final stage will start from Etyek to decide the fate of the overall victory on the ascents of the Pilis and the cobbled roads of Esztergom. The race will finish in front of the Esztergom Basilica. Over the five days, a total of 875 km and more than 7000 metres of elevation gain await the peloton.

The details of the route (itineraries, maps, profiles, GPX files, road closures, Google Maps etc.) can be found here.

This year, 126 riders from 21 teams will be at the start of Tour de Hongrie. Six WorldTeams (Lidl - Trek, UAE Team Emirates XRG, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, Jayco AlUla, Bahrain Victorious, XDS Astana) will take part - including the top three in this year's UCI World Rankings (UAE, Lidl - Trek, XDS Astana). They will be joined by nine ProTeams, five Continental Teams and one Cyclo-Cross ProTeam.

In recent years it has become almost a tradition for sprinters to prepare for the Tour de France in Hungary. Three of the fastest riders in the world will be here: 2021 green jersey winner Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious), six-time Tour de France stage winner Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla) and Olympic track cycling champion Sam Welsford (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe). Alongside them, Pan American champion Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates XRG), European champion Giacomo Nizzolo (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and track cycling World Champion Tim Torn Teutenberg (Lidl - Trek) will also have a chance of challenging for stage wins.

The general classification looks particularly unpredictable this year, with no previous winners or heavy favourites at the start. Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Sergio Higuita (XDS Astana), Harold Martin Lopez (XDS Astana), Rainer Kepplinger (Bahrain Victorious), Emil Herzog (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Ivan Ramiro Sosa (Equipo Kern Pharma), Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) and Albert Withen Philipsen (Lidl – Trek) can all be in contention.

For the first time since 2017, the national team of Hungary won’t take part in the race, but there will still be 15 Hungarians in the peloton. This is thanks to the fact that 3 Hungarian Continental Teams are allowed to participate: Epronex – Hungary Cycling Team, Karcag Cycling – Épkar Team and Team United Shipping. The best Hungarian rider can be either Márton Dina (Euskaltel – Euskadi), Márk Valent (MBH Bank Ballan CSB), Erik Fetter (Team United Shipping) or Bálint Feldhoffer (Team United Shipping).

As usual, Tour de Hongrie 2025 will feature four distinctive jerseys. The most valuable of these will be the Yellow Jersey sponsored by Visit Balaton 365, Active Hungary and the Hungarian Cycling Federation, which will go to the leader of the general classification. The Green Jersey of Skoda and Europcar will go to the leader of the points classification. The Red Jersey of Cofidis will go to the leader of the mountains classification. The best Hungarian rider in the general classification will be awarded the white jersey of Magyar Közút.

The 46th Tour de Hongrie can be followed by spectators from almost every country in the world. According to our international media distribution partner, Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), footage of Tour de Hongrie will be broadcast on at least 67 channels in more than 180 countries. The provisional distribution list is available here.

For the third year in a row, the race will be accompanied by a sponsor caravan. The sponsors of our competition are preparing countless gifts and surprises, so it is definitely worth arriving at the roadsides early. Amateur tours and side events will also be held, including AmaTour Budapest, Cofidis AmaTour Kékes and Székesfehérvár Criterium.

Our official Roadbook can be found here.

Thanks to Navcenter, you can follow the caravan's route live on the tdh.fleet.hu website.

The 46th Tour de Hongrie  will start on 14 May (Wednesday) at 11:00 at Szent Gellért Square in Budapest.
