5 days, 20 teams, 120 competitors and 851 kilometers await us at Tour de Hongrie 2024.
Tour de Hongrie 2024 starts on 8 May, but the program begins a day earlier. Szent István Park in Hajdúszoboszló will host the team presentation of Tour de Hongrie which will be broadcast live by the M4 Sport channel. You can read more about the team presentation here.
The race will start in the Great Plain: on 8 May, sprinters will fight for the first yellow jersey between Karcag and Hajdúszoboszló. The next day, the caravan will set off from Tokaj to Kazincbarcika on a hilly but sprinter-friendly stage, followed by the queen stage on Friday between "Kolorcity" and Gyöngyös-Kékestető. On Saturday, the peloton will cycle from the capital to Etyek on a tricky route, and on Sunday, the fate of the overall will be decided on the slopes of Mecsek at the end of the Siófok-Pécs mountain stage. You can find all the information about the route (itineraries, maps, profiles, GPX files, city closures, interactive Google maps and points of interest) on this link.
The 45th Tour de Hongrie includes eight WorldTeams, which represent the best riders of the sport. Among the world's best teams, UAE Team Emirates, INEOS Grenadiers, Jayco AlUla, Lidl-Trek, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL, BORA - hansgrohe, Bahrain Victorious and Astana Qazaqstan Team will all be here! Along with them, eight ProTeams, three Continental Teams and the Hungarian national team complete the startlist. 6 riders per team can participate in the ProSeries category competition, so we can expect a total of 120 competitors. You can find information about the teams here.
Tour de Hongrie traditionally has a strong sprinting field and 2024 will be no different. There will be Mark Cavendish, who is chasing his record 35th Tour de France stage win, three-time world champion Peter Sagan, five-time Giro d'Italia stage winner Elia Viviani, two-time Tour de Hongrie and five-time Tour de France stage winner Dylan Groenewegen, Sam Welsford, who started the season with three WorldTour wins, and our former stage winners, Jakub Mareczko and Matteo Moschetti. And that's not even mentioning Jon Aberasturi, Álvaro José Hodeg, Cees Bolt, Emils Liepins, Pavel Bittner, Dusan Rajovic, Manuel Penalver, Jarne van de Paar, Thibau Nyst or Michael Morkov, who are all on the provisional starting list...
The list of GC favourites include two former Tour de Hongrie winners. Damien Howson is back again to follow up his third place in 2020 and victory in 2021 with another Hungarian Tour podium finish. However, he could face a serious challenger in defending champion Marc Hirschi. They will be joined in the fight by former Liége-Bastogne-Liége winner Wout Poels, Tour de Hongrie silver medallist Óscar Rodríguez, last year's bronze medallist and stage podium winner Yannis Voisard, BORA - hansgrohe's Emanuel Buchmann and Ben Zwiehoff, and Lotto Dstny's Harm Vanhoucke.
Of course, there will be no shortage of Hungarians either. According to the preliminary starting list, 12 of them will be in the field: six (Márton Dina, Barnabás Peák, Ádám Pápai, Zétény Szijártó, Bálint Feldhoffer and Viktor Filutás) in the Hungarian national team, four (Ádám Karl, Balázs Rózsa, Zsolt Istlstekker, Gergő Orosz) in Team Epronex, one in MBH Bank Colpack Ballan (Márk Valent) and one in Polti - Kometa (Erik Fetter).
As usual, the 2024 Tour de Hongrie will feature four distinctive jerseys. The most valuable of these will be the yellow sponsored by VisitBalaton365, which will go to the leader of the general classification. The green jersey of Skoda and Europcar will go to the leader of the points classification. The red jersey with the Cofidis logo will go to the leader of the mountains classification. The best Hungarian rider in the general classification will be awarded the white jersey with the Magyar Közút logo.
For the second year in a row, the race will be accompanied by a sponsor caravan. The sponsors of our competition are preparing countless gifts and surprises, so it is definitely worth arriving at the roadsides early.
All key information for the race is available in our official roadbook - you can find it here.
Thanks to NavCenter, you can follow the caravan's route live on the tdh.fleet.hu website.
