If we think about the terrain only, the 34th Tour de Hongrie was probably the hardest of them all. Five of the six stages included at least one 1st Category climb, while the peloton had to tackle the climb of Bükkszenkereszt twice.
The biggest peloton of the race's history (with almost 140 riders) included a huge amount of international talent - the Hungarians couldn't win a stage, their best rider, Bálint Szeghalmi (Team Cornix) finished only 4th. Despite the challenging route, the General Classification became settled after Stage 1, when Andrew Bradley won in the Bükk Mountains. Team Swiag did everything to keep the yellow jersey on Bradley, and they succeeded.
This was the first edition of the Tour de Hongrie which visited Slovakia, and the first one to go outside the current borders of Hungary since 1943. Stage 2 started in Slovenské Nové Mesto, and finished in Kosice, where local Robert Nagy triumphed.
