Eight stages were held in 2005, and a Hungarian rider triumphed. Tamás Lengyel took the Yellow Jersey on the penultimate day, when the peloton had to climb the Kékestető twice: once at the end of a regular stage, and once during a mountain time trial from Mátraháza.
The biggest star of the race was the 19-year-old Gerard Ciolek: the young German sprinter won three stages in a single Tour de Hongrie. The last one to achieve this was Antal Megyerdi back in 1962. Ciolek won the U23 World Championships (2006), a Vuelta a Espana stage (2009) and the Milano-Sanremo (2013) later on!
