Ukrainians dominated the 27th Tour de Hongrie: they won six stages, every distinctive jerseys and even the Teams Classification by Torov Kir - this record stands to this day.
Attila Árvai, the only Hungarian stage winner in 1998
The race started with Torov Kir winning the team time trial in Budapest. Their riders, Rotar, Nazarenko and Khalilov won 4 stages together, while Oleg Ruban from the National Team of Ukraine also took victory once. The only non-Ukrainian stage winners were Róbert Nagy and Attila Árvai. Hungarian Károly Eisenkrammer finished 3rd in his last Tour de Hongrie - three years later, he became the main organiser of the event.
