The last Tour of the 1960's became a classic - László Mahó won it by 58 seconds, without a stage win, or even a stage podium.

The 900 km long route had to be changed in the last minute due to a huge flood in Western Hungary. Another problematic natural phenomenon also occured: during the race, a major heatwave caused unbearable circumstances.
This Tour de Hongrie marked the end of an era: the race disappeared from the international calendar, and didn't return until 1993.
