The first seven-day-long edition of the Tour de Hongrie was the longest in the race's history. The eventual winner, Győző Török (Honvéd) - who defended his title succesfully - finished the 1257 km in 39 hours.

Between Debrecen and Miskolc, the first individual time-trial of the race's history took place - the distance was an astonishing 100 km. Győző Török took the yellow jersey after Stage 2, then extended his lead after winning the time-trial, and kept his lead until the end of the race.
The Stalin Square hosted the Big Start of the race - three months before the Hungarian Revolution...
