Thirteen proved to be an unlucky number for the Tour de Hongrie as the first criterium of it's history turned into chaos, and the race disappeared from the international calendar for 7 years.
The first two stages stayed the same as in 1942, but the third became a short criterium in the center of Cluj. The officials made huge mistakes: they could not keep up with the pace and miscalculated how many laps each rider has completed.
Days after the end of this chaotic stage, the Hungarian Cycling Federation decided to exclude the last stage from the General Classification, and gave the victory to István Liszkay, who became only the second two-times champion of the Tour after László Vida.
At the end of World War II, the Soviet troops arrived in Hungary. Northern Transylvania have been reassigned to Romania, and the Tour de Hongrie took another break - this time, a longer one. The Kingdom became a Republic - thus began the socialist era of Hungary's history.
